AK Interactive US Army paint set review

Here is the new AK interactive painting set that I have purchased. I was quite curious about the colors they had selected and to be frank, I am not particularly impressed.

The set is not bad but it doesn't contain anything I cannot do with my existing Vallejo colors.

Additionally, I do not think that the paints are aimed at the wargaming community with zillion of figures to paint. The paints are a bit transparent which will extend by as much the number of layers one has to apply. If you are a figure painter and have one model (or 5) to paint, then carefully applying layer after layer is fine. If you paint full armies, you might think twice.

Here are the full references included in the set:

It is always a bit difficult to show the exact colors on a monitor, therefore on the first row I have put the AK interactive references and the colors below them are from the Vallejo range as reference (not necessarily the exact matching tone)

Vallejo from left to right: US dark green, Mahogany, Brown Violet, Field drab, Khaki

Conclusion: not sure it is love at first sight. Generally speaking, the AK interactive set is not bad, just not mind blowing. They get malus point for the transparency of the paint (which may be a plus for a certain type of painters)

I have tons of AK interactive products that I find exceptional for weathering. For painting, it is not my cup of tea.
