My friend Scott and I had another go at Pride of Lions last Thursday. We agreed on a 600 point battle. Scott wanted to try out his new Priest-led human army and the God-fearer "magic". I haven't yet completed my Dark Elves so I added some subjugated human allies to the list. Scott led his army with a Priest General and another Priest. I had the King lead the army supported by a Sorceress, a Sorcerer (both "Shamans"), and an Army Hero. Scott threw out some terrain and we deployed for battle.
The Dark Elf left with Elite Armored Halberds up front backed by Elite Raptor Cavalry.
The right flank is made up of subjugated allies. Spearmen backed with archers and cavalry in support.
The center comprised another Elite Halberd unit; Elite Armored Swordsmen backed by Elite archers with the King and his shamans close by.
Scott's human spear-wall with cavalry on the right flank.
Heavy spears backed by armored crossbowmen and Scott's Priest-General.
Orders are given and the Dark Elf line advances. The humans advance the center and threaten with their cavalry on their right. I used my magic to debuff the human abilities while Scott prayer-ed up protection. Throughout the battle Scott's priests outperformed my shamans.
Human cavalry eye the Elven line.
The lines close as the Elven Raptor riders intercept the enemy...
...and totally rout the human cavalry!
The Raptor cavalry routed 2 more human spear units and after several more rounds of combat the battle lines deteriorate as casualties are taken by both sides. The Raptors now threaten the entire human line.
The Elven right is threatened but reserves are on the way. The human right is about to collapse as their casualties continue to mount.
Elven reserves fill the gap and the allied cavalry sweeps around to outflank the human left. The Raptor riders eliminated 2 more enemy spear units bringing the day's tally to 5 enemy destroyed! A Unit Citation and battle honors embroidered on their standard are in order.
At this point Scott surrendered the day to the Elven King.
As usual, Scott and I probably played some rules wrong as neither of us had a chance to brush up before the battle. Thanks to Al for directing us on some rules questions. His Orcs had just defeated Chris' Lizard army and his new super unit dinosaur! Well done, Al!
All in all I felt Prayer-based "magic" was powerful but not a game breaker by any means as their Priests and Prayer levels are costly in points. They should get something for their investment. Some of the prayers are an absolute "hoot" and I wouldn't want an Undead army if those prayers are answered!!!
Great game Scott! I thoroughly enjoyed the battle.
Happy Gaming All!
