The middle of February is never the best time of year in the northern hemisphere; somehow this February has been the pits. Usually a cup half full kind of person I have really struggled to see the good at the moment. But I keep telling myself I’m very lucky! For years I suffered from SAD and I put that down to working indoors and not getting enough sunlight in the day. Since retirement those symptoms have dissipated until this February. Grey, grey days are probably the culprit plus a lack of people mixing and volunteering; I’m a social soul.
This week has been a little better. I lapped up all 900 pages of the latest Strike novel in record time. Certainly the best so far in my opinion. Early starts too as we were having some new doors fitted. Wooden ones that will give a new feel to the house which is feeling a little jaded like us. They’ve been on order for some time and half of them have finally arrived. Enough to do the first floor doors. Sadly they need three coats of varnish and then hopefully no more maintenance for years. Better half is wielding his paintbrush as I type and I can tell you the smell of varnish certainly lingers. Oh well good things are worth suffering for. Wizard certainly wasn’t impressed with the carpenters visit and took himself off to hide under the settee poor thing.
Talking of suffering we went for our first vaccinations last weekend. My partner had no ill effects unlike yours truly. A red itchy arm that has only just started to calm down after nearly a week. All in a good cause I suppose.
Walking has been a little half hearted under the glowering skies but my spirits were lifted a couple of days ago when I came upon a positive glut of snowdrops. Their little white heads cheerfully bobbing in the breeze along with a few daffodils and celandine. Thank goodness for nature when you are feeling glum. Now I’m just waiting for a few warm days to get out into the garden once again.
Well I’ll love you and leave you with a few of my snowdrops and the joy of a vase of tulips that I treated myself to. Anything cheerful happening in your corner?
