Good Morning! Here is my daily fantasy baseball injury report. Throughout the season I will post daily content (and if not, I will give you a few days heads up that I'll be absent). These injury reports are of those that were either scratched, removed, or placed on IL the previous day. If a player is reported as injured after 8am, their name appears on the NEXT days injury report. Yes, that does mean that the later games may have players who are put on an injury report a day late. I try to speculate on who will take the players place in the lineup/order/rotation based on depth charts and stats. This is just speculation; I am no god. Think of it as brainstorming with you, the fantasy owner, as a way to mitigate your loss. I do not update players health status. Once they are placed on here, they are out of sight and out of mind until they drop the designation and are playing in a game. Even then, if they are not fully in the game I will not comment. Thank you for giving my reports an opportunity and a look. I hope you found them helpful.
Hitters
Houston Astros: Carlos Correa (SS) - The star shortstop was placed in COVID protocol on Friday. It's unclear whether he has contracted the virus, or if its close contact related. Robel Garcia covered for him, and he's the only traditional option left with the injuries to Alex Bregman and Aledmys Diaz. Garcia is hitting .169 in limited looks this year.
Tampa Bay Rays: Mike Brousseau (1B/2B/3B) - The utility man was placed on the IL with a strained oblique on Friday. Brosseau had only been given 11 ABs since 6/23, constantly being recalled and demoted between the majors and AAA. Vidal Brujan took his place on the roster and is believed to hold his role. Taylor Walls also plays a utility role, and has hit .240 this year at the MLB level.
Washington Nationals: Yan Gomes (C) - Midway through the contest on Friday against the Giants, Gomes suffered an injury to his side and left the game. It occurred when he threw back a warmup pitch. Tres Barrera once more is the only healthy catcher on the Washington roster. He is 3/9 this year at the MLB level, and only hit .224 at AAA.
Pitchers
Chicago Cubs: Brad Wieck (RP) - The reliever was placed on the IL for heart problems on Friday. Apparently, this isn't a first for him, but an injury timetable is not something that can be placed on a situation like this. Tommy Nance is a solid arm in their bullpen who isn't getting enough looks.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Jimmy Nelson (RP) - Although Nelson has done a stellar job in the recent couple of months, and pitched three scoreless outings over the last week, he was placed on the IL on Friday. It's unclear when he suffered the injury because his appearances were so clean. Scott Alexander and Phil Bickford are two guys with solid rates and not many opportunities yet.
Miami Marlins: Zach Thompson (SP/RP) - The rookie was a late scratch on Friday due to an illness. Shawn Morimando took his place as the starter after being recalled recently. He pitched five scoreless innings and may be somebody that gets another look after the All-Star break.
Pittsburgh Pirates: Duane Underwood Jr. (RP) - Following an awful performance earlier in the week that saw Underwood give up 7 runs in an inning, he went on the IL on Friday. Chasen Shreve and David Bednar are two relievers with little saves/holds but nice rates.
San Diego Padres: Yu Darvish (SP)/Drew Pomeranz (RP) - For the second time this week, the Padres have two pitchers listed. Darvish was pulled from his start on Thursday with back tightness and that was only revealed yesterday, thus not appearing on the list until now. Pomeranz is dealing with forearm inflammation and was placed on the IL as a result. If for some reason Darvish is dealing with something significant and can't go after the All-Star break, Reiss Knehr will likely be recalled again to join the fray as maybe another. Craig Stammen and Austin Adams deserve more opportunities.
Texas Rangers: John King (RP) - The middle reliever has not gone a single outing without giving up a run in 2021. This culminated to an appearance earlier in the week where he gave up 4 in two innings of work. This landed him on the IL on Friday. Spencer Patton has some really great rates since his recall and should continue to get opportunities now that King is out of the way.
